That map has more features than one might think.

It's supposed to visualize the geotagged content at a glance. Then, when you click on a photo, a big layer will open up and show community content in that region.

I love the concept design of the Visit Sweden site.
However I don't feel confortable with that tiny litle images on the map. Images and lite squares are kind of "big" and make everything messy and confuse. I would suggest some interactive circles or icons that open a litle box with the mouseover...
